I heard from another friend today that “corporate” has blocked LinkedIn access. This seems to be pretty common among financial institutions and other litigation-obsessed groups, but, in my eyes, it represents failure on many levels.
It’s a failure in trust. Corporations are more concerned with policing staff than empowering them with access to information.
It’s a failure in vision. What can your employees achieve when given greater capabilities?
It’s a failure in Human Resources. If you can’t hire professionals that you can trust with time management, you’re doing something incorrectly.
When considering LinkedIn or any other information-based resource, company policy makers need to strongly consider the impact of potential benefit over potential loss. Too many people in “corporate” want to say “NO!” instead of “Yes. How can we make this happen?” Employees are not given enough freedom to innovate because they’re strapped down with restrictions.
Take that to your board.
