During my lifetime, I have studied many people.  I’m curious.  I read.  Nonfiction.  When I’m in public, I people-watch.  I like to observe human behavior.  It’s what I do.

I enjoy studying certain people: Salvador Dali.  Muhammad Ali.  Malcolm X.

Here’s a revelation: I should have spent more time studying myself.

I’m not being egotistical, but if I had spent as much time thinking about my behaviors and perceptions as I spent on historical figures, I would be much better off.  I am not an introspective person, but when I have taken time to analyze myself, I have benefited.

When was the last time you dedicated an hour to think about yourself?  Not thinking about your activities and relationships, but about your personality.  What you enjoy doing.  How that has changed.  Why you do certain things.  Why you do them that way.

Take a long lunch by yourself soon.  Think about you.  Make some notes.  You may learn something important.
