Debuting this year is the newly revised U.S. Citizenship Test. It was revised by Alfonso Aguilar the Director of the Office of Citizenship, Department of Homeland Security and is supposed to stress American values. I’ve included a sampling of the test questions below:
CURRENT TEST - Sample U.S. Citizenship Test Questions:
- How many stars are there in our flag?
- How many states are there in the Union?
- What color are the stars on our flag?
- What do the stars on the flag mean?
- How many stripes are there in the flag?
- What date is the Day of Independence?
- Independence from whom?
- What country did we fight during the revolutionary war?
- Who was the first president of the United States?
- What do we call a change of the constitution?
REDESIGNED TEST - Sample U.S. Citizenship Test Questions:
- Name one war fought by the United States in the 1900s.
- What did Susan B. Anthony do?
- What is one thing Benjamin Franklin is famous for?
- There were 13 original states. Name three.
- What is one responsibility that is only for United States citizens?
- What does the judicial branch do?
- Name your U.S. Representative.
- Who makes federal laws?
- What does the Constitution do?
- What is the supreme law of the land?
What’s missing? I think what was needed was a revision and a new title that focused on capitalism. We should call it the U.S. Citizen and Consumership Test….or something similar maybe.
Could you pass a U.S. Consumer Test? Let’s see…
- Who’s images are on the one, five, ten and twenty dollar bills?
- If a store advertises a 20% off sale and you buy an item are you saving or are you spending?
- If you buy a Bond paying 4%; are you an owner of an investment or are you a loaner of your money?
- How many years does it take your money to double in value if you earn a 5% return? How about a 7%, 10% 0r 12% return?
- If you invest in a CD and your guaranteed interest rate is 3.5% but your tax bracket is 27% and inflation averages 3.2% , what’s your real rate of return after taxes and after inflation? Are you actually guaranteed to make money or lose money?
