The next 3 weeks is the best networking time of the year. Don’t miss out! Too many people think everything is shutting down about now and there’s no sense in trying to develop new business. I find it the best time of year for one simple reason. It’s amazing how many people you can reach now that you can’t reach any other time of the year. Now don’t set yourself up for failure by thinking you’re going to connect with any certain person. Rather use this time to reach out to as many people as you can via the phone, email, and networking events. The reason is simple, this time of year everyone’s schedules get thrown into disarray and as a result they get out of sync and many times they do things they wouldn’t normally do. I’ll give you an example, on my website I have a number of articles and every time there’s a holiday week-end the number of hits per page sky-rockets. Why, because people have time to explore things they don’t normally get the time to do.
Your peak time for networking is between Christmas and New Year’s. Yes there are fewer people working during that time but many times the people who are working are more receptive to answering the phone because so few people are calling. People who are working that week are also many times catching up on things and laying the groundwork for next year so there’s no better time for you to introduce yourself. It might mean you have to change your holiday plans but if networking during those days makes for a better 2008, then it’s probably time well spent.
Use the next couple of weeks to cast your net, and do it as far and as wide as possible and you’ll amaze yourself at who you connect with. You’ll be even more amazed when some of these contacts materialize into business in 2008. With that said the first place for you to reach out is right here on the LinkedIn website…go for it! Great Networking in 2008!
